Happy half week!! We know we promised that we would be posting at least once a week and we also know its been almost a month since our last post; but these few days have been a little bit complicated because of work; but ….WE ARE BACK!!

On today´s post  we would like to show you a piece of paradise, the incredible hotel created over the sea; “Six Senses Laamu Resort”.

This wonderful place is located in the Maldives Islands in one of the little islands named Lamuu Atol in which the only way to arrive there is by a short boat ride,  which makes this adventure even more cooler because sometimes you can see dolphins swimming on the sides of the boat.

The “Six Senses Resort”, is built with sustainable materials, for example the structure is made of palm wood, combined with other woods that give form to the hotel.

The hotel consists of cottages that are connected by bridges over the sea, and there are big platforms where the lobby, kitchen, bar, restaurants, spa, and other amenities are located.

Having the chance to stay at this hotel will be one of the most exciting memories a person could ever live; just by looking at all the wonders God has created and the oportunity to experience living over the sea for a few days could make your mind blow up!! Stay tune!

Kitchens; the heart of a home! {Organization tips}

Well, hello there!!! On today’s post we are concluding our first mini serie [Kitchens; the heart of a home] so we decided to take the chance to talk about some organization tips which will make your life much easier.

There is no better way to explain it than showing it with some photos; that’s why the main key for this post are all the photos you may find bellow. We hope you enjoy it and start getting creative inspired by these photos.

By the way, check out our pinterest account [Architecture&Desing P+N+V] where you may find many other different ways to get inspired; you’ll love it!

Why not use a CD rack to hold Tupperware lids.

OT-1

Use transparent Tupperware for storage such as your rice, sugar, beans, flour, nuts; in order to have them all together.

OT-2

This is a perfect way to use every single space in your kitchen. Add a cutting board holder in one of your cabinets doors.

OT-3

Who doesn’t like a good cup of coffee or tea? Well here’s a good idea for having your little piece of heaven in your own kitchen. You will need a drawer and some dividers; which you may find in your local store or you may DIY just by using some foam board, a ruler and a cutter.

OT-4

A super way for storing knifes in a under cabinet block drawer; this way you may keep them away from kids reach and off the counter.

OT-5

If you are one of those persons who loves baking, you will know that trays can be annoying to storage them; this won’t be a problem anymore; check out this great solution! Use one cabinet nearby your oven so that you’ll have everything together and ready for baking; remember you can DIY your own dividers by using some foam board.

OT-6

Use magazine holders for storing all your cans.

OT-13

Talking about magazines, you may also use the magazine rack for storing all your pot lids neatly as opposed to thrown around your cabinets.

OT-12

For a better way for storing your pots and pans try this out; all you need is a sliding rail with hooks and a space inside your kitchen counter.

OT-7

Such a great idea; instead of using a drawer!

OT-14

Instead of having sink cabinets use drawers it will make your life easier when you’re trying to reach for something.

OT-8

Pan organizers?  yes they do exists; but here’s another good way for using them!

OT-9

No more broken dishes!  How do you store your dishes? It’s probably most common to keep plates, bowls, and cups in overhead cabinets but having a deep drawer is the best option because you may find your dishes neat, organized, and generally easier to lift a bunch of plates out.

OT-10

Spice drawer beneath your stove? Yes please!

Kitchens; the heart of a home! {Kitchens Styles}

Long time no see! It´s been a while since we haven´t posted anything in our blog, and the reason why is because we´ve been traveling a lot because of business matters; we hope we can achieve what we have planned.

On our last post we talked about beginning to write miniseries about many different architectural topics, so the first idea that poped out was why not talk about the heart of every home?; kitchens, so that’s how we came up with the title for the first of many miniseries we´ll be posting in our blog.

So, on the first post of this miniserie we talked about the importance kitchens have in our everyday life that’s why in architecture, kitchens are a special place, because it isn’t just one more space it´s really the heart of a home. That’s the reason why, we as architects focus and spend a lot of time designing this room, to give the identity of the project and to give the spirit that the architect wants to give to the project.

In this post we want to share the most common and beautiful kitchen styles; which basically, only two styles exist; the modern and the casual, but there are many more styles derived by these basic styles.

Contemporary Kitchens: these kitchens are inspired by scandinavian and danish, it´s a modern style based in straight lines, usually using light woods; the range color is between black and gray and sometimes red or any live colors may be used. The furniture generally is made of stainless steel and the appliances are visible.

This style combines with modern houses but it is also combined with classic style houses.

Farmhouse Kitchens: this style started in the U.S. with the pilgrims houses. The purpose of this style is to create a feeling of casual and rural through rustic finishes. Primary colors are used all over the place, the furniture and appliances are made of wrought iron, and you may find fabrics such as cotton to decorate.

Rural Kitchens: this style is less rustic than the farmhouse style. It´s a very common style because of it´s functionality. Generally it is based in only one color, for example green or red, and one of its main characteristics is the open bar to the dining room.

Old World Kitchens: this style is inspired in French and Italian kitchens, dark woods are the soul of these kitchens, the most important thing of this style is the combination between wood and some stones like marble and granite, the design is based in straight lines and the furniture is generally modern.

Once we try to explain in a short way all different kitchens styles, it´s your turn to tell us which one you like the most?? Leave us your comments down below!

Kitchens, the heart of a home!

With this post we will begin a serie of 4 posts about kitchens. The idea is to talk about the importance kitchens have in our everyday life.
With each post we´ll try to show the art to design the ideal kitchen, and how to adapt the design to the functionality, comfort and identity of a project.

Kitchens are considered the heart of every home; because it is the main point of meeting and working for most families. Kitchen designs are often made with open view of dining and living rooms; and in these cases it is not only a work area but a visual kick or a decorative element for housing.

First of all a kitchen must be functional! to achieve this goal architects must find the relationship between storage areas, washing areas and preparation areas; if these 3 areas are perfectly related the kitchen is more functional.
The kitchen design should match the style of the house, but with a twist that makes it stand out from the other spaces. It should become the identity of the home you need.

As an architect I believe that the design of a kitchen is a challenge; but by striving in our creativity, a kitchen can be made a dream place in our project; since art can be found even in a kitchen!

Here are some examples of kitchens; so we can start getting inspired!

What is a Virtual Architecture Tour?

A virtual tour in architecture is something that technological advances have contributed to this beautiful art.

In past times, an architect had to express the project through drawings and sketches. The power of imagination, the ability to design and draw were the main keys to transmit how people could have imagined a project not yet built.

Since the computer became a work tool for architects, there was an evolution of how to present projects. What caught the most attention in new architects was the ability to create 3D architectural plants. These new technological advances have progressed to the point of being able to make photorealism models in 3D and virtual architecture tours.

Virtual tours are very useful tools for architects, because it exposes the project as it will become; it gives you a real view of solar orientation depending on where your terrain is, the materials you would like to use, desired interior and exterior colors and even furniture.

Now a days modern constructions are using this type of technology as a way of showing customers how their project will be; that’s why making a virtual tour is a good investment for any kind of project because in a long term it becomes cheaper for them due to that they will know how their project will come out at the end; and they will see if the design meets their expectancies.

Having a virtual tour helps the project to save time; because with it you will have your project completely defined.

If you would like to have a virtual tour of your project contact us by sending us an email to architectureanddesingpnv@gmail.com or by leaving us your information here and we´ll be glad to contact you.

Millau Bridge

Millau Viaduct; is the highest bridge in the world, it is located in France; it was created as an extension of the A75 road linking the cities of Beziers and Paris, avoiding building a road over the valley that separates these two cities.

This project is a masterpiece because of the difficulty level and the precision with which it was built. Its designer was the architect Norman Foster, and the engineer was Virlogeux Michel. The project consisted of 7 pillars of concrete where boards are supported. This almost doubles the bridge height Europabrücke, previously  considered the highest bridge in the world. The project began its construction in 2001 and was concluded on December 14, 2004.

Eiffage is the company that built this bridge, as it also built the Eiffel Tower [which is a very visited and important place in France].

The work cost 400 million euros. The project design, the slope of the bridge and the turning radius is obtained considering what would be the best view for the user. It has a height of 1,125 ft, a length of 8,071 ft and its width of 105 ft. With this project we can marvel at the inspiration of an architect, accompanied by the incredible technological advances.

The World’s Tallest Building (Burj Khalifa)

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest tower in the world, it is located in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The Burj Khalifa skyscraper is a world-class destination and the magnificent centerpiece of Downtown Dubai.

For the design many well known architects were called, and the winner of the project was architect Adrian Smith; who was inspired by the Hymenocallis plant which is very common in that area. Inspired by this plant; he created the base form and for the details he was influenced by Islamic architecture; that´s why he used domes and arches all around the building.

The building consists of a central core and three bodies coming out of this; each having different heights. Moreover, as the central structure is getting higher it is also becoming narrower thus creating a good base of support. The building structure is made of concrete; from the first floor till floor 156 and from there on the other floors were made of steel.

This building is 2717 feet tall and has 163 floors in which consists in offices, residences, hotels and shops. This building also has become famous for having the Armani Hotel within its facilities.

This tremendous architectural construction work started in 2004 and ended in 2010. For many great architects it is already considered a modern marvel.

Fun fact: In 2011 Tom Cruise filmed the movie “Mission Impossible; Ghost Protocol” in which many good action shoots were taken of him climbing, jumping and running on the outside of the Burj Khalifa building.

Check out this video from Google in which you may see behind-the-scenes. Look at how the new Trekker technology is able to capture Street View imagery of  Burj Khalifa; the world’s tallest building.

Greenland

Greenland is the largest island in the world; it belongs to the American Continent and it is located in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Polar Arctic Ocean. This monumental island is considered an independent state and it belongs to Denmark. It was formerly colonized by Amerindian people, but suffered several invasions from Sweden and later by Denmark.

The surface of the island is known to be covered 84% with ice. Due to weather conditions, the most common means of transportation is by plane.

The main industry in Greenland is mining; due that the island is rich in aluminum, nickel, platinum, tungsten, titanium, and copper.

This place has amazing landscapes; the surface has an intense white ice color making contrast with the dark deep blue sea which makes this a unique place. Greenland is also famous for its aurora borealis.

The natural architecture of the place is special, because it is based in two things; frozen water and liquid water; which together has built this incredible paradise.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is a wonderful place located in northern Arizona, and its name is because this natural wonder passed through the Colorado River. It’s amazing how this place was formed, through the continuous and powerful water flow. Through the years the crust has been wearing down creating these impressive walls on the sides of the river. There are records that thousands of years ago volcanic activity existed in the area, which allowed the land to erode; and that is why the tone of the land of this place is red and its stones are porous and the sand has a clay type.

It is considered that this place has the largest geological columns of the world due to its high altitude. The approximate distance of the Grand Canyon is between 9mi and 18mi. It has a maximum depth of 4822ft. Some of the sports you do in the Canyon are rafting, kayak, and boating; also you can perform activities such as fishing, camping and hunting. If you are interested in going to this wonderful place, currently there are several companies offering different trips visiting the Grand Canyon.

From the point of view of an architect, this place can make anyone fall in love, just by looking at the earth tones, rocks, also the vegetation and scenery offered to us at different times of the day. This is a way to inspire us and enjoy the most of this wonderful place!
